Fall Back and get some of this Lineup

The Lineup: September ‘11

What I can’t live without: Beyond Scared Straight.  Or as I like to call it, crack for your eyeballs.  It’s a more intense version of the Scared Straight show that we used to watch when we were younger and thank goodness for that because Bad Ass Kids + Jail = Comedy.  There is nothing funnier than watching some wannabe gangster get reduced to tears at the hands of a criminal who threatens to sell him off for a pack of cigarettes.  The best part however, is watching these kids realize they are throwing their lives away with these bad decisions and making a change.
(Related: Breaking Bad – The start of this season could be misconstrued as being “slow” but those first episodes were only the fuses tied to the mountain of dynamite that’s about to explode.)

What you should really care about: Troy Davis execution.
Why you need to care:  There are moments when you realize that it may be time for us to upgrade as a society.  This isn’t just about race and the “would we have executed a white man under the same circumstances” question, its about “should we even have a place in our society for the death penalty” kind of question.

WTF of the month: Ray J's rant.  Not exactly sure when Tupac’s soul decided to invade Brandy’s brother’s body but the result was as comical as it was disturbing.  Somehow Fabolous and Floyd Mayweather play major roles in this soap opera.  Don’t have a whole lot to say other than you have to see it to believe it.

#GameNightFlow: Dicecapades.  It won’t exactly knock Taboo off the pedestal for “Greatest Group Game” but if you’re looking to switch things up, this is a great new game to play

My DVR is laughing: Because Modern Family is officially back and funnier than ever.  There’s a reason why it won an Emmy in its first season and why people believe it’s the funniest show on television.

(Related: The Office - still funny, even without Michael Scott)

You’re currently sleeping on:  Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD.  Despite my close proximity to the city and this particular area, I only visited the Inner Harbor for the first time a few weeks ago.  It’s a beautiful place with great restaurants and awesome views.  There are opportunities to shop and things for the kids to enjoy.  Needless to say, it won’t be very long before I return.

Unexpected dopeness: Macgruber. Seriously.  I feel like the more I say the more I will run the risk of looking silly so just catch it on cable if you need to kill a hour and a half.  I promise you won’t regret it.

You should have Netflix’d: Source Code. It’s kind of like Minority Report but in reverse.  The movie is extremely entertaining and Jake Gyllenhaal can definitely carry a movie.

Had to make room on my iPod for: J. Cole.  Since I first heard J. Cole rap, I was an instant fan. When I found out that he signed to Jay-Z’ Roc Nation label, I had high hopes that this kid with an incredible talent would get a chance to shine.  The record business can be cruel and because he lacked that “conventional” hit, Cole literally had to sit on the “sideline” and watch his contemporaries release albums and share the limelight.  But when J. Cole finally had his number called, he showed why he deserved to be on the field.  His debut album, Cole Word: A Sideline Story, combines the emotional honesty of Kanye’s The College Dropout with lyrics and story telling that you would find on a Nas album.  It’s my favorite album this year and I was proud to give him my $10.

Can’t wait for:  Dexter Morgan.
