Ladies of the night...

Even Exchange.

Why is prostitution illegal?

Seriously.  The idea that two consenting adults engaging in sexual intercourse for money is illegal, is completely absurd.  Frowned upon?  Sure.  A crime?  I don’t think so.  The criminalization of prostitution is rooted in an old puritan mentality where the slightest mentioning of sex is taboo.  Its time we all grow up and admit to what prostitution really is.

An even and fair exchange between two parties.

No different than going to the store and buying bread.  The terms are set.  The prices are market driven.  If I take a woman out to dinner, a Broadway play and we enjoy a night at a hotel, is that more ethical than me skipping all of those steps with the same woman and just writing her a check for $1,000?  People “pay” for sex all of the time.  If these people are criminals then you need to arrest every man that pays for the VIP section at the club and the woman that goes home with him that night.

Also explain this line of logic to me:
Man has sex with a woman and pays her money for it = Prostitution (Illegal)
Man pays a man and a woman to have sex with each other = Porn (legal)

Again we are seriously nitpicking if we think one set of people deserve to go to jail while the other gets to make millions and have annual award shows.  Pornography (even strip clubs) involves the same kind of exchange – some form of sexual experience for money.  We have to stop seeing sex as evil and erase these arbitrary lines of morality.

Furthermore, if you de-criminalize prostitution, it will have positive effects on the society.  You will be able to privatize the business, which will allow for rules and regulations such as STD testing and age checks.  Women won’t have to worry about being beat up by pimps or standing on a corner at 2am in a dangerous neighborhood.  Income earned can be taxed and that money can be spent on sex education.  Having this level of regulation can only be achieved through legality.

The truth of the matter is simple; people love sex.  Those who don’t have the time or ability to have an active sex life shouldn’t be doomed to a life of celibacy.  And for those who don’t feel like sitting in a cubicle  and would rather be handsomely paid for something they “enjoy” to do, who am I or you to tell them no?  Bottom line, just like drinking alcohol or smoking weed, people are going to do whatever they want anyway so you might as well control it.

See The Girlfriend Experience, it just might change your mind.
